G'day all!

It looks like there may be a few waves around over the next few days, so I hope to see you all in the sea doing your best to dodge the man-o-wars that seem to want to share the Wittering waters! Joking apart, do be careful, I understand they hurt! If you do get stung, the symptoms are very similar to those of weaver fish, as is the treatment.

As the summer draws to a close (WHAT!), we'd like to give you a few dates for your diary for this autumn:

• September 20–21: Inter-club Longboard Competition. The Longboard competition will take place in Scarborough and we would like to send a team. We've competed in this competition on many occasions and we'd like to go and bring back the trophy if we can.
  
  
• October 11: The Shore Surf Club Open. This will be for the usual categories of: Juniors, Seniors, Master, Vets and Ladies. The Open is always an enjoyable day and I hope many of you will come along and compete. Even if you're not interested in competing personally, please do come along and support – it really is a great day out. Due to the tides, we will have to start early, so no doubt see you in the Shore Inn to "prepare" in the usual way!

• November 1: The Second Mike Ruinet Memorial Longboard Classic. Again the usual categories of: Juniors, Seniors, Master, Vets and Ladies will be run. Many of you will know that this is an important event for the Shore Surf Club and your support is vital.

  In order to mark this event properly the competition will be followed in the evening by a party in the Shore Inn. The pub is sharing the cost of a band with us for the evening (thanks Lou), so it should be a good time for all. Prize giving will performed during the band's interval. If the water is flat, a back-up date of the November 15 will be used, and the party will be moved too.

One other thing... we are in the process of organising a Christmas party with a special guest band. The date and venue are still to be confirmed, but it's likely to be around mid-December – more on this later. Any comments or ideas please drop me a line.
