Bracklesham Surf Spot

Where to surf ? Well you don’t get that many options with the Manhood Peninsula.
Bracklesham Village

Map : Bracklesham Car Park

Break : Sand and Flint stones, breaks left and right, slow wave, best suited to longboards.

Tide state : usually best 2-3 hours before high tide. Can be a bit sporty getting in and out on a big swell at high tide (head for the launch ramp), generally the waves turn into a shore dump at high tide, so most people are out by then.

Best Wind Direction : North Easterly is off shore.

Parking and Facilities : Parking is easy as there is a car park with toilets and a launch ramp.

Crowds : Sometimes can get crowded, to beat the crowds paddle either to the left or the right, there are always waves going unridden and there is plenty of space to spread out.

Shore Road, East Wittering

Map : Nearest Car Park

Break : Sand and Flint stones, seems to be a nice right straight out from the rainfall outlet pipe, generally breaks left and right, slow wave, best suited to longboards.

Tide state : usually best 2-3 hours before high tide. Can be a bit sporty getting in and out on a big swell at high tide, avoid getting out in the area directly under the fish hut at hight tide as it has a steep ledge. The waves turn into a shore dump and backs off at high tide, so most people are out by then.

Best Wind Direction : North Easterly is off shore.

Parking and Facilities : Parking is easy as there is a car park with toilets just around the corner. Don’t park in the Shore Inn car park !

Crowds : Yes – can get crowded as this is the closest break to the village, to beat the crowds paddle either to the left or the right, there are always waves going unridden.
Jolliffe Road, East Wittering

Break : Sand and Flint stones, nice lefts and rights, generally breaks left and right, slow wave, best suited to longboards.

Tide state : usually best 2-3 hours before high tide. The waves turn into a shore dump at high tide, so most people are out by then.

Best Wind Direction : North Easterly is off shore.

Parking and Facilities : Park in Jolliffe Road. Please respect the locals who live on Jolliffe Road, park considerately and take all your litter home with you.

West Wittering Beach

Map : Beach Car Park

Break : Breaks over sand at low tide, Sand and Flint at mid to high, generally breaks left and right, slow wave, best suited to longboards. You are better off heading towards the bottom of the car park as the top area is a large natural lagoon at low tide (i.e. no waves). There are afew spots around here, some are just off the beach, and some outer sand banks that involve a paddle, there is also a spot called East Head that requires good knowledge of tides, swell and wind direction, watch the current here as it gets stronger with the tide going in and out of chichester harbour.

Tide state : usually best at 1 hour before and after high tide, avoid at low tide.

Parking and Facilities : Parking is easy as there is a car park with toilets. Car park charges are quite steep. For all you Manhood Peninsula residents you can get a parking season ticket.

Crowds : The peaks can get busy when it is on, it gets good over winter/spring/autumn.
